If you have to remember one thing with WordPress, it is that it is the leading free solution on the web to create a website. Thanks to Gutenberg editor, creating an article has never been easier.
Since its first version in 2004, launched by the agency Automattic, this CMS (Content Management System), which today represents more than 23% of websites on the Internet, has been able to renew itself and evolve to offer an ever more accessible user experience. , efficient and secure.
A major update has come to shake up the WordPress sphere. Version 5.0 has transformed an essential feature of this content management system. From now on, it is no longer the default classic editor that installs automatically, but the new editor, Gutenberg.
Note however that the latter can be replaced by the old editor by downloading a free extension, “Classic Editor” developed by WordPress Contributors, available on WordPress.org. Note however that for fans of Classic Editor, it will be permanently replaced on December 31, 2021.
From this date, no more backtracking will be possible and no plugin can change this. WordPress will run at full speed under Gutenberg editor.
Structure of a WordPress article
In its beginnings, WordPress was a blogging solution, in 2019 WordPress allows you to create websites, from the simplest to the most complex. The CMS has an editor, TinyMCE, which is one of the most successful WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) to date.
The interface to create an article or a page on WordPress is always composed in the same way, we observe first of all, at the top of the page, a title input area, this field is reserved exclusively for the title of the page or article.
Below, a field for customizing the permalink is available, very useful for optimizing the URL of the article. In the center, the editorial part allows you to write the content of the article, with subtitles and paragraphs. This text box is accompanied by a toolbar to personalize your text as well as an “Add Media” button to publish images.
The action blocks, located on the right, allow you to “publish” or “save as draft” the article or page, another block which offers the possibility of choosing the format of the article, the following of add a category and one that offers the download of a highlighted image.
What will change with Gutenberg Editor?
The new WordPress editor is called Gutenberg and therefore replaces the classic WordPress editor since the update of version 5.0. At first glance, its interface is more refined but the reading remains the same. Indeed, there is the field reserved for entering the title as well as the text area located below.
However, its particularity lies in the creation of blocks. These blocks are the genesis of the new editor. They are classified by categories of actions. For example, a block creates a space, another offers the possibility of easily embedding a tweet or even setting up a table.
With Gutenberg editor, WordPress simplifies the layout process and embedding content. Knowledge of HTML and CSS is not required and the possibilities are endless. Recurring blocks can be duplicated or saved as templates and thus be used for new articles or pages. This functionality saves an invaluable time.
For beginners, Gutenberg editor is a very practical solution that allows you to quickly format and personalize articles and pages. However, for those who know the classic editor, the handling may be more delicate.
