The Federal Government has recently ordered telecommunications companies in Nigeria to temporarily stop their subscribers from using their SIM cards until they link their National Identification Number (NIN) with the SIM Card.
This order was put in place by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami after a meeting with the executives of telecommunication companies operating in Nigeria. The meeting was held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

- Visit the Customer NIN Capture https://mtnonline.com/nin/
- You will see the form where you will fill in your full name. Then put your MTN Mobile Number Type your NIN Fill in your email address Then click on ‘SUBMIT’ button
- Wait for an SMS confirming that you have successfully linked your NIN to your MTN number.
Linking NIN with MTN number via short code
- First you need to dial *785#
- Then input the 11 digits NIN, then send
- Wait for some minutes to get notification saying successful or not

You will need to send a text message in this process
- First visit your messaging app
